The All-time Classic Bread Maker Recipe
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 2 ½ cups warm water
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp lard, softened
- 1 tbsp salt
- 6 ½ cups bread flour
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Then stir in the lard, salt, and two cups of your flour. Slowly stir in the remainder of the flour ½ a cup at a time, mixing well after every addition. When your mixture has come together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for approximately eight minutes
In a lightly oiled, large bowl, place your dough and turn it to coat the surface thoroughly. Cover it with a damp cloth and allow it to rise in a warm place until it has doubled in volume.
Deflate the dough and turn it out onto your lightly floured board. Divide into two equal pieces and form into loaves. Place these into two lightly greased loaf pans (9×5). Cover with a damp cloth and allow to double again in size, approximately 40 minutes.
Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Your bread is done when it sounds hollow as you tap the bottom.
Grandma’s Kitchen Bread Maker Recipe
- 2 packets dry yeast
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tsp salt
- 3 cups warm water
- 1 cup dry potato flakes
- 10 cups all purpose flour
In a large saucepan over low heat, simmer milk and add your butter, sugar and salt. Cool until lukewarm, add warm water and potatoes. Then, sprinkle the yeast in and stir until dissolved. Stir in 6 cups of flour, mixing well. Then add the remaining flour in small portions, mixing well again. Let rest 15 minutes.
Turn the dough out onto a floured board and knead for 6 – 8 minutes. Place the dough in a large, lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth, allowing it to rise until doubled in volume (1 hour).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Punch down the dough and divide, placing into two lightly greased loaf pans (9×5), covering with a damp cloth and allowing to double again in volume. Bake for 30 minutes.
